Q: What is the life
expectancy of synthetic grass?
A: The turf comes with a 6-year limited
warranty, however, the actual life expectancy is over 15 years.
Q: What type of maintenance
should I expect?
A: The synthetic lawn is virtually maintenance
free. Debris like leaves, twigs, and dirt can be easily removed with a
leaf blower or broom. An occasional brooming is recommended but not necessary.
Q: Does the long term
effect of the sun harm the synthetic grass or make it fade?
A: No. Our fibers are UV-treated and can
withstand the damaging effects of the sun, heat, wind, snow, ice and water.
Q: Are these synthetic
lawns similar to carpet or Astro-turf?
A: No. The DuraLawn
products are either a 1.5" non-filled fiber or a 2.5" rubber-filled
fiber. These products are so realistic and aesthetically pleasing that
it is difficult to tell the difference between real grass and our synthetic
lawns. It actually looks and feels just like real grass.
Q: Can this be installed
over my existing lawn?
A: The existing sod must first be removed
either by spraying weed kill or removed with a sod-cutter, available at
any rental store. A fine layer of crushed aggregate is laid down, smoothed
and compacted before the turf is installed.
Q: How does the turf
drain?
A: We offer 2 choices, a perforated weather
backing or a non-perforated backing. If a non-perforated weather backing
is used, the water drains off the top of the turf and backing. With a
perforated backing, the water drains under the turf.
Q: Can pets harm the
synthetic grass?
A: No. This material is perfect for dog
runs and animal rehabilitation. Urine does not cause a problem because
the urine can be washed off, but actually the sand and rubber absorbs
the urine and then it evaporates. Other messes can be cleaned with water
and a pooper-scooper.
Q: How does the cost
compare to installing natural grass?
A: It is easy to cost-justify a synthetic
lawn over a 3-5 year period. The cost of top soil, sprinkler system, and
sod combined with mowing, weeding, fertilizing, and watering compared
to installing a synthetic lawn is relatively the same. Now with drought
problems in many areas, synthetic grass is the best solution for a beautiful,
environmentally friendly lawn.
